Authentic Hungarian Goulash Soup

Serves: 4


1 pound beef, cut to 1 inch cubes
1 pound pork, trimmed and cut to 1 inch cubes
1 pound onion, chopped
2 green bell peppers, chopped
2 tomatoes, chopped
2 cloves garlic, chopped
1 teaspoon caraway seed
Salt to taste
3 Tablespoons Hungarian red paprika
2 potatoes, cut into small cubes
1 cup flour
1 egg
Water

Lightly brown beef with onions in oil. Add paprika and 3 cups water. Slow cook for 1/2 hour. Add pork, green pepper, tomatoes, caraway, and salt. Add water if needed. Cook until tender. Add cubed potatoes and cook 10 minutes. In a separate bowl, combine egg, flour, and water to form a hard dough ball. Cut into small chips and toss into soup. Cook an additional 2 minutes and serve.
